Jay is a certified NRA Instructor Pistol Instructor, USCCA Certified Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer, and Certified SAFTEA Instructor. He is a veteran who served Active Duty in the Marine Corps during Operations Enduring Freedom and the Air National Guard during the Global War On Terrorism.

Jay attends advanced courses and continues professional training yearly to pass on new and relevant knowledge to his students. He has trained with Gabe White (Gabe White Training), Scott Jedlinski (Modern Samurai Project), Dick Wheeler NRA Counselor Instructor, Bill Martin Regional SAFTEA Instructor, and Terry Rudes Chief USCCA Instructor.
